This is my blog about the ESL and Dual Language programs in Coppell ISD. I am the ESL facilitator at two schools, Denton Creek and Town Center. We have a push in model for ESL. This means I work with the teachers and students in the classroom supporting language development for students who's second language is English. I enjoy this very much as the children don't leave their classroom to 'learn' English in a vacuum. They are learning English in the context of the subjects they are studying.
I am also working with the Dual Language programs at Denton Creek and Wilson. This has been very exciting. My kindergartener has started her school career in this program. Dual Language in Coppell is in Kindergarten and 1st grade and will move up through the grades each year. We use a two - way 50/50 model. This means that we have two teachers, one as the English teacher and one as the Spanish teacher. The children receive 50% of their instruction in each language. Nothing is repeated, just supported by the other language. The goal for our students in our Dual Language program is that they become Bilingual, Biliterate, and Biculture citizens.
I look forward to sharing with you the developments of this program throughout the year.
I look forward to seeing the development of this program in Coppell.
