English as a Second Language (ESL)

Well, we are three weeks into school and the Dual Language Programs at both Denton Creek and Wilson are in full swing.  It's so wonderful to go into the classrooms and see the students adjusting to the Spanish portion of the day as well as the routines of school.
In Coppell, we also have the ESL program.  This is for any student who speaks a language other then English and qualifies through an assessment.  Many may think this is mainly Spanish.  However, in Coppell we have many languages including Korean, Japanese, Urdu, Telegu, and many others.  In previous years, we used a pull-out program where the students would come to a classroom for English instruction.  However, we are in our third year of a push-in model in the Elementary.  This is implemented through many different avenues.  All classroom teachers are ESL certified through the state.  We then have a Facilitator for each campus who  pushes ino the classrooms to provide support to students and teachers via the content.  The Facilitators also provide professional development for the teachers in ESL methods they can use in their classroom.  This has worked well and I enjoy working with the students within their curriculum so they are successful.
Look for pictures to come of the Dual Language students as soon as I learn how to post them.
