Commit to the the Crease!

We have been in a fast and furious mode both at school and at home.  This past weekend I had a most wonderful experience!  I attended the Dinah Zike On the Road foldable training.  Foldables are a very kinesthetic way of learning.

One of the big aha's of the weekend is that to use foldables you must really dig deep into your curriculum, really understand the goals of what you are teaching so that you can chunk it into comprehensible pieces and look for ways to support your language learners using the foldables.  We looked at foldables being used in notebooks.  As my district is moving more towards formative and authentic summative assessment, foldables can used in a portfolio of learning.

Now with all things, sometimes it is difficult to give control to the students.  However, one of the biggest benefits about making learning 3-D is the learner is able to manipulate the paper and knowledge.
When modeling how to do the foldable, remember:
                                     * Close enough is good enough
                                     * Commit to the crease - it will all be just fine.

This is one of the many presentation/final project boards that were on display.  It has flaps on the sides as well.  This was an on-going project and really showed the different learning that occurred during the book study.

How could you use a project board like this?
