Dual Language Parent Meeting

Last night we had a dual language parent meeting, where about 50 parents attended.  The information that was presented is good for any educator, parent, and administrator who work with children who are learning a new language.  I have included the power point used last night for reference on the stages of language acquisition.

Strategy of the Week

Strategy: Reading Think-Alouds
Help students become active readers and listeners by orally modeling the thinking process
used to comprehend.
You could use this when going through the process of doing a task, reading for comprehension
or thinking through the writing process.

This helps the student think about their thinking, better known as metacognition.

Strategy of the Week

I am beginning to post a strategy of the week for Second Language Learners in the classroom.
This weeks is:

Word Splash
I love this one because you can do it so many different ways.  This is a way to connect vocabulary in a group or topic.
One of the ways to use thise strategy is to put words up in a splash and have the students decide what is the overall theme of the words.
To accommodate students you could include some pictures in the Splash.
This strategy could also be used by the students in wordle to tie concepts together.
You can find wordle at www.wordle.net

Home vocabulary and recordings

At Denton Creek we have made a list of words parents and children can use to label their houses.  We have also made recordings of the words for your families to listen to for pronunciation.  I know I will be using it home to help me begin using more Spanish at home.

We look forward to adding more links.
